Marvel at Jamnagar's Marine Beauty: Marine National Park and Sanctuary
My husband is seldom home as his marketing job profile requires him to travel to oversee the markets. His work commitment is ethical that I often flaunt his campaigns among my friends! But this October, he really surprised me! We don't often travel together as he barely gets time to stay home but the amazing people from his workplace sent us on a Jamnagar City trip together and I couldn't appreciate these people more.
The focus of our Jamnagar trip was not sightseeing but the Marine National Park. Co-incidentally, I had been planning a trip to the Rann of Kutch some time back and when I received the sponsored trip surprise from my husband, I was on the top of the world!
The Marine National Park spans over 162 Square Kilometers with additional 457.92 Square Kilometers of the famed Marine Sanctuary both of which are located in the Jamnagar district of the Gulf of Kutch. It is surprising that even with such beautiful islands and coral reefs, the place hasn't yet been corrupted with the herd of adventure- seekers. I had the fortune of visiting it with least tourists so I ended up having most fun at the sanctuary. The Gulf of Kutch actually has 42 islands and 33 of those have some of the most wondrous coral reefs you will ever see. The place is peculiarly attractive with its sandy beaches and some mangrove swamps as it balances its beauty with the best of both worlds. A paradise for birdwatchers, the island has some amazing species and now that I have been there, I am seriously considering investing into some telephone lens.
I grew up in Pondicherry and moved to Pune with my husband after wedding. Since then, I have always associated beaches with home but soon as I was at the Marine National Park & Sanctuary, the coral reefs and the marine species had me entranced. It was nothing like home but much more spell-binding! The park really invigorated nostalgic memories of the mangroves, creeks, octopus, sea turtles, jelly fish, star fish, etc.
The information we sought from the national park stated that the islands have 37 species of Hard & Soft Corals with 30 species of Crabs, 200 species of Mollusks and 70 species of Sponges!
The information would probably not amuse you if you have never enjoyed marine life before the park is surely worth a visit. Marine life and world has certain nonchalance to it. A visitor simply can't avoid the temptation of observing. It is said that the mere task of observation and the knowledge that a subject is being observed puts the whole task into scrutiny but there is a certain calmness to the marine world of Gulf of Kutch. Their marine life doesn't feel disturbed or scrutinized and the lack of radical tourism campaigns has made sure that the marine life thrives. The park even has some endangered species of Sea Turtles, Porpoise, and dolphins. It has more than 200 species of Birds making it among the best places to spot birds at, next to only Bharatpur and Gir Forests. Our trip was centered on Jamnagar To Marine National Park so all the transportation from the islands and for sailing was made available by our Hotel. Our hostess was generous enough to throw in an additional romantic dinner in our package as she got to know that we recently married. br>
I spent the first two days of my Jamnagar Holiday at the Marine park. We had our meals arranged at the same hotel where we were staying but my husband was eager to explore the local culture and ambience so we took to wandering around and eating at local places. We had the pleasure of satiating our thirst for local food with the wonderful fast food as we ended up spending an entire evening just trying the different food items like Gathiya Bhajia, Bhel Puri, Katka Bread, Ras Patra, Khandvi, Daal Puri, dry fruit Kachoris and other such local dishes. My husband was so enamored with the Kachoris that we even some packed for our way back!
Being my usual self, I couldn't let my Jamnagar Travels end without some shopping. As luck would have it, Jamnagar is actually famous for the Bandhani Sarees. In fact, I had been meaning to get some authentic prints and fabrics from the city but it never materialized. So, I jumped on the chance while I had and came back home with two bags full of Sarees and some local chaniya Choli fabrics and dress material.
